Does the trick, assembling the bag to be freestanding solo can be quite a mission. Don't have to take the handlebars off so if you have a weird cockpit setup this could be required. This bag is massive, first bag I've found that won't fit in my car and requires me to get an Uber XL at my destination.
Too big and bulky for many airlines. Return policy with evoc sucks. If you really NEED this bag, buy it from a big retailer with better customer service. Otherwise there are many other worthy bike bags.
*My initial review was deleted so resubmitting*
Priced at a premium, I expected the bag to be a worthwhile investment. Sadly, the reality fell far short. After just one flight, the internal frame of the was significantly bent; noting the bike did make it back safely. I did reach out to customer service, but they said the warranty does not cover damage from traveling. Maybe my expectations are too high, but if this bag can't withstand the rigors of travel, what is its true purpose? I will say the use of the bag was reasonably straight forward and it's nice that it packs downs nicely - so the low score is mostly reflective of poor customer service and the lack of willingness for EVOC to stand behind their products.
As a bag that costs north of a grand I justified this as an investment rather than an off hand purchase; however that has not been the case. After my first use the frame was heavily bent. This is not covered by warranty as damage done by airlines is not covered and support told me to go kick rocks, but what else could be the intended use of this bag?
I have recommended this bag since it first came out. HOWEVER, the original design did not include the zipper protector on the corner near the cockpit. After only 6 airline trips, the zipper has become severely abraded to the point I'm concerned it may fail. EVOC has added a zipper protector to this area in its current model, but are denying me even a small discount on a new bag despite the high cost of the bag and what, to my mind, was a foreseeable design flaw. Also, contacting EVOC US was impossible via several routes; I finally had to contact EVOC Germany through information provided by an industry insider. Caveat emptor.
