I've been using this bag for about 8 years now for an aluminum gravel bike and a carbon mountain bike. With a helmet and a pedal wrench, I'm usually right at 49 pounds with both bikes. I'll also throw my sweaty bike clothes inside too on the way home so they're not in my actual luggage. I use pool noodles around all the frame parts. I wrap the derailleur with a small blanket. I have thick cardboard pieces that slide over the brake rotors and cut to fit inside the disc protectors. So far I have had no damage to any of my bikes on numerous trips. The outside is pretty scuffed up, but the bag itself is still in great shape and I'll definitely get many more years out of it.
My recommendation though is to be careful with the front wheel. When pulling it, you have to be super careful with the front wheel, lifting the bike over any bumps. I've broken two front wheels already, so I keep a spare with me now, and I'm very careful with it. That's really my biggest complaint, is I wish the front wheel was built with some kind of better reinforcement than just the little plastic tab.
I recently purchased the bike bag pro (from Western Bikeworks) for an overseas trip. Packing my carbon-frame bike was straightforward, made easier by the included bike stand pro. The internal zippered pockets were useful to keep my chain, derailleur and pedals.
However my bicycle arrived at its destination with a cracked seat stay. The design flaw of the bike bag pro is that the disc protection compartments - where the disc brake and wheel hub sit - is aligned directly on either side of the seat stay. There is no bracing to prevent the disc protection pads from pressing inwards and placing stress on the seat stays. As a result, I was left with an unridable bicycle and had to incur additional expense to rent a bicycle for my trip.
I would NOT recommend using the bike bag pro with a carbon bike. Even if I decide to use it for a metal frame bike, I'll have to make sure to fashion some sort of internal bracing to prevent stress on the chain stays.
I’m leaving this review to express my deep frustration with the failure of my EVOC bike transport bag during a critical race weekend. The zipper completely delaminated, rendering the bag nearly unusable -- putting me attending my race at risk. I had no choice but to borrow a bag from a friend (from a competing brand) just to salvage the event.
The failure was not minor. It exposed a serious flaw in the bag’s design and construction. Yet EVOC’s response—blaming the airline based solely on photos—is not only baseless but dismissive. How could they possibly determine cause without a proper inspection? It’s clear from this experience that EVOC does not stand behind its products or prioritize its customers.
This bag was a major investment, and it completely let me down when it mattered most. At this point, I cannot recommend EVOC to anyone. Buyer beware.
This is my 4th different bike case and by far this Evoc pro case is the easiest and best case i have used. I got 2 of them for my son and i to travel and and not have been fantastic. Highly recommend.
LOVE this bike bag. But, with airlines being more strict with the 50lbs checked baggage limit these days, I’m finding myself paying an extra $100 each way because my enduro bike is ~54lbs… not cool.
Would happily buy a new bag from EVOC if they made it a bit lighter. Sucks to lose around half the allotted weight (~22lbs) to the bag itself.
Higher cost would quickly be justified!
